Toy Safety and Toy Recalls
How do we know that the toy we buy for our child is safe?
One of the best and most informative sites on the internet is the Canadian Toy Testing Council.
Not only does this site report on the testing of toys, it advises you as to what toys are suitable for your child. The council tests numerous toys, covering a variety of themes for a wide age range. Categories include Arts and crafts, Construction toys, Educational toys, Games, Puzzles, Science, Ride-on, Stuffed toys and many others.
Every year the Council publishes a Toy Report for children in all ages. All toys are rated and followed by a very good description as to what the toy does, what help is needed and how children enjoy it.
The Best Bet Award list the best toy for each age and all categories. It is the ideal place to find the best toy for your child's interest, wether it is arts and crafts or construction your child is interested in. A Best Bet toy is considered if it is innovative in design, excellent in function and durability, and has sustaining play value.
The Children's Choice Award is given to new toys on the market that have proven to be fun, innovative and the absolute best in their area of play.
The site also lists Great Books for Children, ranging from picture books to novels to non-fiction or science-based fact books.
